EXECUTIVE MAYOR HONOURS MADIBA WITH PRESENTS OF BLANKETS TO THE ELDERLY

Tears of joy welled down the faces and the expressions of joy reverberated through the foyer of Thabo Mofutsanyana District Municipality on Friday, 19 July 2013, when the Executive Mayor Dr B.E. Mzangwa presented senior citizens of Qwaqwa with blankets.
The donation of blankets for these elderly people from various sections of Qwaqwa were a collaboration from the Office of the Exective Mayor and Umso Construction (Pty) Ltd.
This was done to mark Mandela Month and to honour the former statesman for his immense contribution to the liberation struggle and his sterling sacrifice in the fight for freedom in South Africa.
The Executive Mayor was accompanied by a Member of Mayoral Committee, Councillor Shashapa Motaung and representatives from Umso Construction. Forty (40) blankets were handed out to much delight of these senior citizens. Dr Mzangwa requested the senior citizens to keep on praying for the speedy recovery of Dr Nelson Mandela, who is still receiving treatment at the hospital. “I also want to express my gratitude to you our elders for always supporting our government, and making sure that as younger generation we always get advices from you so that we may succeed in our leadership,” he said.
An 82-year-old Lepota Motaung of Dithotaneng, who was one of the recipients of the blankets, was all smiles as he waltzed his way through the doors of the district municipality carrying his gift in his hand.
“We are thankful to the Executive Mayor for these wonderful gifts of blankets. As for Madiba, we shall forever be grateful for setting our country free when for years we were under the oppression, especially we who worked on the farms for a long time,” said Motaung.
